Vintage Mickey Mouse soft toy c.1969 RARE
Made in USA, Walt Disney
The legacy of the Mickey Mouse design is truly remarkable as its influence can be seen across art, fashion and design for almost a hundred years. With the scale of Disney and who Mickey Mouse has become, it's easy to forget that Walt Disney was a true artist
Two years after Mickey Mouse's film debut in the late 1920s, the first Mickey Mouse soft toy was designed by Charlotte Clark in her Los Angeles home. Mrs. Clark obtained permission from Disney to license her stuffed toys and sell them in stores around Los Angeles. Walt Disney quickly saw the value of merchandise, but Charlotte Clark continued overseeing the designs until her retirement in 1958.
Stuffed Mickey and Minnie toys from the 1930s and 1940s are among the most desirable in collectors circles and they often sell around $350-$550, with vintages from the 1960s-1970s selling in the $150-$200 range.
